Raymond Francis Tiley

Raymond F. Tiley, “Santa Ray” of Ocean Township, passed away on August 26, 2017. He was 62 years old. Ray was the life of the party who lived each day to its fullest, making friends, music and corny jokes wherever he went. He brought joy to countless children and families as Santa Claus—not only during the Christmas season, but all year round.

While he was a long-time employee of Catholic Charities, Ray made a positive impact on the world outside of work as well. He loved people and he was generous with his time. Whether he was volunteering his Santa services with children in foster care, raising funds for victims of Hurricane Sandy, or simply delighting his grandchildren by trading knock-knock jokes, Ray positively impacted the lives of strangers and loved ones alike. Ray was also a talented musician who loved to perform and enjoy live music; he played in numerous bands throughout his life.

Ray is survived by the love of his life and wife of 35 years, Marianne McHugh Tiley, and his children and their spouses, Ray Tiley II and Anna Hewitt, Danielle Tiley and Daniel Tana, Meg Tiley and longtime life-companion, Nettie Peters. He was the loving grandfather of Amos, Eowyn, Vivian and Tallulah.

A Memorial Mass will take place at the Church of Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach on Friday, September 1st at 10 AM. A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at the Colts Neck Inn on Friday, September 1st at 4pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Relief or Operation Jersey Shore Santa.
