William Joseph Walsh

William J. Walsh, 91, of Middletown, passed away on May 7, 2018 at home.  He was born in Little Silver to the late Thomas F. and Margaret E. (Finn) Welch. He grew up in Middletown along with his 9 siblings.

William was a graduate of RBC where he played every Varsity baseball game from his freshman year until graduation. He was a lifelong Brooklyn Dodgers fan even nicknaming his grandchildren after the players. William proudly served our country in the U.S Navy during WWII.  He began his career working as a file clerk for the Home Insurance Company moving up the ladder until he retired after 43 years.  He became a consultant for the Reliance Company, the Navigators Group, and finally ended his career in 2012 as Assistant Vice President for Mutual Marine Office.

William is predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years Dorothy in 2016, his daughter Mary Ellen Gluth, his son William Gerard Walsh, his 9 siblings and his great grandson Nathan Francis Grosso. He is survived by his loving daughter Julia Reynold and her husband Paul, his son in law Joseph Gluth and his wife Julie and his daughter in law Nancy.  Also, his adoring grandchildren Michael and Melissa Reynold; Steven and Johnna Gluth; Megan and Christopher Grosso; Angela Gluth; Kevin Gluth ; Julia Reynold and his great grandchildren Ava Jane, Caroline & Bradley Reynold; Olivia and Jocelyn Grosso and Henry Gluth.

Visitation will be held at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave, Red Bank, NJ on Thursday May 10, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday May 11, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday May 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James R.C. Church in Red Bank, with a burial following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.
