Tribute

William J. Gatyas, 84, passed away on April 13, 2018. He was born and raised in Perth Amboy and lived in Colonia before retiring in Lakewood where enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family.

Bill was a high school All-American at Perth Amboy HS and was a loyal son of Rutgers where he earned his Bachelor and Master Degrees as well as being a three sport athlete.

He started his career in education and coaching at Garfield High School. He then returned to his hometown of Perth Amboy where he was a teacher and football coach (1965 State Champions and Coach of the Year), later becoming the Athletic Director before moving to Colonia High School as the AD.

He remained active with the Rutgers athletic program where he was chairman of the Hall of Fame Committee and a member of the Scarlet R and Football Letter Winners Association.  He was also past President of the Woodbridge Lions Club, past President of the Middlesex County Director of Athletics and Middlesex County Coaches Association.  He was inducted into both the Perth Amboy and Woodbridge Hall of Fame.

Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Rosemary (Giuffre) and his parents William and Lottie (Niemiera) Gatyas. He is survived by his daughters Cheryl Confessore (Joseph) and Pamela Farrell (William) as well as his cherished grandchildren Jordan and Troy Confessore, Ryan, Jake and Shea Farrell. He is also survived by his brother Eugene Gatyas (Elsie).

Visitation will take place at the John E. Day Funeral Home 85 Riverside Avenue Red Bank, NJ 07701 from 4-8 PM on Wednesday April 18, 2018.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be take place at Church of the Visitation, 755 Mantoloking Rd, Brick, NJ at 11 AM on Thursday April 19, 2018.  Interment will follow at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, 1 Honey Locust Dr, Lakewood, NJ.
