Tribute

Thomas J. Tennyson, of Stuart, Florida, passed peacefully away at The Chelsea in Shrewsbury on Monday, August 31, 2020.  Thomas was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 24,1932.

Thomas honorably served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955. After his honorable discharge from the service, Thomas earned a 4 year degree (in 2 years) from Saint Johns University, Brooklyn, New York. He then joined the ranks of the Brooklyn Public Library in New York City, where he served until his retirement after 30 years at the level of Deputy Director, his years there providing many opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.

Retiring in Stuart, Florida, Thomas enjoyed various activities, among them serving as president of Hanson’s Landing in Stuart, and membership in Stuart’s Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Above all, he loved time spent with family and friends, and he thoroughly enjoyed traveling, especially when it involved a cruise.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Thomas A. Tennyson and Rose (nee Daly) Tennyson, by two sisters, Mary Lee and Elaine Hogarty, one brother, Peter Tennyson, and son-in-law Thomas Brady.  Among those who remain to cherish his memory are His wife of 62 years, Gloria, his three daughters, Karen Brady, Cynthia (Ronald) Jones, and Gloria (Michael) Matthews, his brother, John Tennyson, and five grandchildren who he adored, Thomas, Kirsten, Alison, Megan and Nicolette.

Visitation will take place at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701 on Thursday, September 3rd from 5 to 8 PM, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St.James Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank on Friday, September 4th.   Interment will be private.
