Philomel “Phil” Mori Maglaya, age 82, of Tinton Falls, NJ passed away on Saturday, May 14th, 2022. Born in La Union, Philippines to Florencio and Juana Maglaya, he was the third of seven children.
Phil served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He had a long standing career with Kemper National and Hartford Steam Boilers as a nuclear engineer. Phil was a simple, hardworking man with a great sense of humor. He was devoted to his family and friends. His generosity and kindness helped support and sponsor many family members to come to the United States from the Philippines to plant family roots which are now flourishing.
Phil was a good husband and loving father, predeceased by his cherished wife of 51 years, Mercedita, in December, 2021. He was blessed with two beloved children, Eric (Elaine) Maglaya, and Melissa (Michael) Fernandes and his loving seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Ayden, Mia, Ava, Mia, Mikey and Ethan. Philomel was survived by his siblings Benjamin Maglaya, Amelia Ignacio, Estela Castillejos and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by siblings Adolfo Maglaya, Honesto Maglaya, and Shirley Garcia.
Family and friends may visit Monday, May 23rd from 3:00 to 8:00pm at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, New Jersey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24th, at 10:15am at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church in Lincroft, New Jersey. Entombment will immediately follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport, NJ.
