Peter M. Belmont

Peter M. Belmont, Jr., 94, passed away on August 5, 2017 surrounded by his family and close friends. Peter, originally from Upper Montclair, NJ was a resident of Tinton Falls, NJ for over 60 years. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and earned his MBA at New York University. Peter served as a naval officer in the South Pacific where he saw combat in the Battle of Okinawa in World War II.
During his seven decade career with the Prudential Insurance Co. Peter attained many professional honors and recognitions, including serving as a Board Member of the Charter Life Underwriters and being named to the Million Dollar Roundtable.
Peter was an active member of St. James RC Church in Red Bank and a choir member for over 20 years. His civic and charitable contributions to his local and regional communities included Red Bank Chamber of Commerce; Asbury Park YMCA Board, including a term as Board President; President of the Jersey Shore Notre Dame Club; and more than twenty years of faithful service to Barn for the Poorest of the Poor.
An avid golfer, Peter was a member of Beacon Hill Country Club but he could also be found entertaining family and friends at the keyboard of the Club’s piano. Peter, with his welcoming smile and personality, will be missed by his many friends and loving family. He is survived by Virginia Lynch Belmont, his devoted wife of 61 years, and his son and four daughters: Stephen Belmont (Mary Scheller); Donna McNeil [John McNeil]; Joanne Leonardi; Maria Sporn {Scott, Tara, and Brett Sporn] and grandson, Robert Martin; Mary Belmont; and his sister-in-law, Evelyn [Bonnie] Lynch [Kathleen Hillman].
A Visiation will take place on Thursday, August 10 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 11 at 11 a.m. at the St. James RC Church, Red Bank. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
