Tribute

Michael Joseph Devine, 23 of Oceanport, NJ, passed away on February 6, 2022. He was born on November 3, 1998 in Red Bank, NJ, the son of Kathleen Devine (née Beyer) and Donald J. Devine. He was a beloved son of his parents and a treasured brother of Mary Rose and Robert Devine.

He attended Wolf Hill Elementary School, Maple Place Middle School, Red Bank Catholic High School, and graduated from Shore Regional High School in 2017. Michael played football for the Shore Pop Warner program for 8 years, for Red Bank Catholic and Shore Regional High Schools, the latter of which he was a varsity member of the 2015 State Championship team, and at Kenyon College. He studied European History at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, graduating in 2021. He loved being a Kenyon Lord as a student, football player, football coach, and friend. He was also a brother of the Chi chapter of Delta Tau Delta.

Michael was passionate about learning about his Irish heritage. During the Spring of 2020, he studied abroad in Dublin, Ireland as part of the Arcadia Abroad Program, focusing on Irish History courses.

Michael was pursuing his aspirations of becoming an attorney. Over the past year, he had dedicated himself to learning more about the law by working as a paralegal at John P. Brennan, Jr. Law. He had recently been accepted to multiple law schools, all of which had offered him academic scholarships.

During his free time, Michael volunteered as a football coach for Shore Pop Warner, instilling his love for the game in other young men. He enjoyed traveling to Boston, Washington D.C, Gambier, Notre Dame, and Austin to visit and celebrate life with his friends and family. Michael was an avid sports fan, being especially passionate about the Kenyon Lords, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team, the New York Giants, and the New York Yankees. He also had a deep love for music.

Michael’s infectious joy, calming nature, and caring heart impacted all who he encountered, weaving a web of community and friendship in every place he lived. While the loss of Michael creates an immeasurable void, those he connected with will continue to feel his love and joy, and will spread it to others.
