Markus Beck, of Lincroft, passed peacefully away at home on Saturday, November 10th, 2018. He was born in New York City, the son of Jacob Beck and Hattie (Nadel) Beck. Mark honorably served in the European Theatre, as a sergeant in the United Sates Army Air Corp. An independent insurance agent, Mark’s professional years were spent in the insurance industry. In private life, he continued to serve, this time in the communities where he lived – during the 1980s, as Middletown Township treasurer, and prior to that as a member of the Matawan Township Council.
Looking back, his was a life well-lived, a life in which he served – country, community, and others. In his retirement years, it became a life lived full-circle, of honest endeavor during the professional years, of the rewards at the end of the decades of service. Thus, those years, the “afternoon” side of his journey, became a world of oceans and distant shores, of vibrant and exotic places, a world where he discovered that he loved to travel, and loved the sea, and the cruise ships that carried him beyond the shores of home.
In addition to his parents, Mark was predeceased by his sister, Thelma Stark and his brother, Franklyn Beck. His loss will be deeply felt by his surviving son, Steven Beck and daughter-in-law, Rosemary, his grandsons, Christopher Mark Beck and Brian Nicholas Beck. Mark is also survived by his loving companion of 30 years, Frances Dorf of Freehold, his beloved nieces, Beth Howard and her husband, Steven, and Gail Leidel and her husband, Roger and several loving great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 14th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, in Red Bank, New Jersey. A service, at the funeral home, will be held on Thursday, November 15th, at 10:00 AM. Immediately following the service, burial will be at West Chester Hills Cemetery (400 Saw Mill River Road) in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York 10706.
