Lorraine Whelan (nee: Martin), 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
Lorraine was born in Huntington, West Virginia to the late Daniel and Martha Martin. She worked as a secretary at Fort Monmouth for many years, and after her retirement, she worked as a medical transcriber at Riverview Medical Center.
Lorraine was a loving, kind and compassionate soul with an infectious giggle, who loved the beach, shopping and going to the movies with her grandchildren. Skilled at cooking and able to duplicate restaurant meals simply by taste, Lorraine enjoyed socializing and parties, as well as her time at home with her favorite reality shows. The highlight of her retirement years was adventuring about the US in her and her husband’s motorhome.
Lorraine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernest H. Whelan (June, 2021). She is survived by her loving sons, Stephen Whelan of Shrewsbury and Ernest D. Whelan and his wife Patricia, of Jackson. Lorraine is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Jim Whelan, Laurie LoPresti and her husband Anthony, Casey Whelan and his wife Erica, and her great grandchildren, Amber and Michael LoPresti and Austin and Carter Whelan.
Family and friends may visit Thursday, September 22nd, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank. A service of committal will be held at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport on Friday, September 23rd at 11:00am.
