Kevin Herbert Reed

Kevin Herbert Reed, 58, of 100 Parker Avenue, Fair Haven, NJ,  (a.k.a. “Hot Dog”) gained his Angel Wings on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Monmouth Medical Center after a short, but tough battle with an illness. 

He attended the Fair Haven Schools, and graduated from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in 1978.  Kevin volunteered to serve his country in the United States Army and was trained and worked as a Hospital Corpsman at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.  After discharge, he relocated to Charlotte, NC for many years.  This is when he gained the infamous nickname “Hot Dog”.  He worked as a Drywall Specialist and soon operated his own contracting business.  Eventually, he returned to New Jersey to the family home. 

Kevin was loved by everyone who knew him.  His laughter, his jokes, his crazy sense of humor, and his big, generous heart will be missed. “Hot Dog” was truly a lot of fun to be around. 

His passing was preceded by his mother, Yvonne Reed, his sister, Sharon Reed Lecomte, his paternal grandparents (Mr. & Mrs. Herbert and Emily Reed) and his maternal grandparents (Mr. & Mrs. William & Barbara Matthews). He leaves behind his father, Herbert Reed, Jr. of the home; his sister, Melanie Woods of Long Branch; niece Ashley Brittain of Red Bank; (fiancée) Virginia Wright, and a host of loving uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. 

Services are scheduled for Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Fisk Chapel A.M.E. Church, 38 Fisk Street, Fair Haven, NJ.  The family will receive visitors during the Wake from 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life begins at Noon, with burial to follow at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Route #35, Hazlet, NJ.  Repass will follow after the return to Fisk Chapel A.M.E. Church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent in Kevin Reed’s honor to Fisk Chapel A.M.E. Church, Post Office Box 6497, Fair Haven, NJ  07704.  Services are entrusted to John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Drive, Red Bank, NJ.
