Kathleen "Kathy" Marion

February 9, 1939 ~ February 9, 2021 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Tribute

Kathleen “Kathy” Marion, 82, of Middletown, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on her birthday February 9, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Kathy was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Martin and Kathleen (O’Brien) Newman. They lived in Long Island, NY before moving to Middletown, NJ when Kathy was a child. She graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School and Chestnut Hill College. Like her mother before her Kathy became a math teacher, beginning her career at Middletown High School where she met and later married Joseph “Joe” Marion. After taking some time off while her children were young, she returned to what she loved to do at Bayshore Middle School, where she stayed until she retired in 2002. One of her greatest pleasures was seeing her former students around town - she never forgot even one.

Kathy and Joe settled in Lincroft, NJ to raise their family where they were parishioners at St. Leo the Great Church. She enjoyed spending every summer at Chapel Beach Club, where she had been a member since she was a young girl. Her family often joked that no matter the stormy clouds at home, if you called her and asked for the weather report, her response without fail would be “…it is beautiful here, you should come down.” - she was usually right.   Kathy stayed in touch with her RBC Class of ’56 classmates through regular lunch bunch events and in her later years volunteered her time with a stroke recovery group at Riverview Medical Center, after having overcome a stroke herself.

Kathy moved to Shadow Lake Village after she lost her husband Joe in 2012, where she and her new home continued to be the hub of her family, Sunday dinners and many of their traditions until her passing. Above all else, Kathy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Nanny adored her grandchildren – watching and cheering them on at every activity and event she possibly could.

Kathy’s beloved husband Joseph Marion, her sister-in-law Mary Ellen Kelly and her brothers-in-law Manual Mato and John Kelly predeceased her. She leaves behind her loving family; daughter Ellen Schauer and her husband Scott of Colts Neck, NJ; daughter Kathleen Sarcone and her husband Charlie of Middletown, NJ; son Marty and wife Tracy of Palm Coast, FL; daughter Margaret of Middletown, NJ and the 6 grandchildren she loved without measure and who will miss their Nanny forever: Conor, Gemma, Aidan, Abigail, Nora and Charlotte.  Also surviving are her sisters Mary Beth Mato and Jean DiGuglielmo and her husband Tony; brother-in-law James Marion and his wife Annette and many nieces and nephews.

A private visitation will be held prior to the funeral mass for the family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be open to the public at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft, NJ on Tuesday February 16, 2021 at 10:15 am. For those who wish to attend the funeral online live on Tuesday use the link below https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CBC1rR7RCU4&feature=youtu.be
