Tribute

Joseph F. Shevlin, Jr., 92, of Shrewsbury, previously of Tinton Falls, passed away on May 16,
2021 at Jersey Shore Medical Center. He was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph F.
Shevlin Sr. and Margaret McCollian and was predeceased by his sister Geraldine, and nieces
Gerry and Peggy. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force Reserves. Over
the years, he was a devoted parishioner to St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church where he
was a long-time usher and member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name, and St. Joseph’s
Society. Joseph worked for over 35 years as a salesman in the outdoor lighting field retiring in
1998.

Joe had a passion for sports and it was rare that he missed a Yankees or Giants game. He played
baseball for many years with the American Legion in Philadelphia, was an avid bowler, and
played men’s softball in Lincroft and with the St. Leo’s Holy Name Society in which he was
inducted into its hall of fame. He was also a long time coach and board of director for the
Lincroft Little League and Softball League. After his retirement he and his wife Lois traveled
around the world visiting such places as Italy, China, Switzerland, Austria, Hawaii, and
Australia. But their most cherished vacations were with the Myrtle Beach “crew” which included
many life-long friends!

Surviving is his beloved wife of 61 years, Lois Russell Shevlin, his loving children, Lois and her
husband Sandy, Joe and his wife Kim, Mike and his wife Claire, and Theresa and her husband
James, his cherished grandchildren, Philip, Sam, Patrick, Corey, Hannah, Michael, Erin,
Michael, Kerry, and James, and his niece Patricia and her husband Charles.

A visitation will be held at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church on Thursday May 20, 2021
from 9 – 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:15 a.m. Interment will follow at
Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Joseph’s memory to the Church of Saint
Leo the Great, Holy Name Society, 50 Hurley’s Lane, Lincroft, NJ 07738.
