Middletown – John P. Guiney, 79, passed away peacefully on Oct 30, 2021.

John was born in the Bronx, New York in 1942 to the late Daniel and Mary Guiney. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School and enlisted in the Navy in 1961, serving his country and traveling the open seas on the USS Monrovia until his honorable discharge in 1966. He was later an employee of the US Postal Service, retiring in 2004.
After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Maureen, his beloved wife of 49 years. John enjoyed spending time with his family, including many vacations, trips to Atlantic City, and cruises in the Caribbean.

John was a loving and devoted father to Amy Adams, and her husband Gregory. He was a cherished grandfather to Katelyn and Dylan Adams, a beloved brother to Anne McPherson and brother-in-law to Sara Woods, and dedicated uncle to James McPherson and to Anna and Olivia Woods.

John enjoyed old movies, music from the rock n’ roll greats such as Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson. He had an uncanny knowledge of historical trivia, and a love for animals. He brightened up family events with his phenomenal sense of humor and sharing of fun stories, including the time he met President Eisenhower.

Visitation will be held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, NJ on Friday 11/5/21 from 4-8PM. A funeral mass will take place at St. Leo the Great’s Roman Catholic Church, 50 Hurley’s Lane, Lincroft, NJ at 9:30AM on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

Private burial will take place at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ, at a later date. Those who wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please consider the DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
