Tribute

J. Ronald Doran (Ron), 84, of Shrewsbury Borough, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2021.
Ron was born in Jersey City, NJ on January 1, 1937 and was raised in Caldwell and Spring Lake NJ. At Manasquan High School, he was the “Best All Around Boy”, an award given to the best male athlete. He attended Rutgers University and graduated from St. Anselm College, Manchester, NH, in 1960. A lifeguard on the Jersey Shore, he also stood watch at The Osprey, where he saved his future wife from an unwanted suitor.
Ron spent his professional life as an advertising sales pro in New York City. In 1993, he founded JRD Associates where he worked until retirement.
Ron (aka Grampy to his grandkid’s friends and more) was a resident of Shrewsbury for 54 years. He loved to go to the beach, golf with his brothers and enjoy many laughs with longtime friends. A wonderful story teller, he entertained family and friends with exotic tales of his business trips, daily commutes on NJ Transit and even mundane trips to the local market.
Ron’s biggest joy was spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren. Ron never missed one of their games and loved when hordes of honorary grandchildren were at his house eating all of the snacks.
Grampy was fond of giving nicknames to everyone – favorites being Big Honey, New, Puddin’ Dolly and Dodsworth. Much to the delight of his Beechwood Drive family, he “accidentally” named The Sturdy Bar – the backyard hangout spot. Ron will be missed by all. We plan to gather often to tell famous and perhaps some infamous stories about him.
Ron is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Carol (nee Sheik), son Ron Doran, daughter Mimi Cahill and husband Andrew, daughter Kim Eulner and his beloved grandchildren, Mark, Michael, Caroline, Maggie, Jake & Rafe, along with in-laws Bill & Patti Sheik, Jack & Deborah Sheik, Gloria & Alan Rowett, Patricia Doran, Jean Doran, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ron was pre-deceased by his parents, James & Helen Doran, brothers Bob, Jim & Bill, in-laws, Bill & Rita Sheik and son-in-law, Mark J. Eulner.
John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Church, Rumson at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021.
