Joanne Marie Chachko

June 29, 1932 ~ November 10, 2021 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Tribute

Joanne M. Chachko, 89, passed away at home on November 10 surrounded by her family. Born in Greenpoint Brooklyn, she lived in Hazlet, NJ before moving to Little Silver 38 years ago.

She eloped with her husband Edward in 1953, an event accidentally captured on the front page New York Examiner. With her salesman husband traveling out of town every week, she almost single-handedly raised her four sons. She is remembered by them for her tough love, unwavering support at sporting events, home-cooked meals and ironing everything [including their jeans and tee shirts]. The holidays were especially happy for Joanne, who, along with Ed, made homemade bread, potato pancakes and chrusciki in their early years, and lavish Christmas dinners as their family grew to include daughters-in-law and grandchildren.

With her sons grown, she returned to school and received her GED and associate degree from Brookdale Community College. She rejoined the workforce at Prudential Property and Casualty (PRUPAC) as a secretary, successfully rising to supervisor [by managing her staff like she did her sons-tough but fair]. After her retirement, she enjoyed her last “job” as after-school babysitter, homework helper and snack-maker for some of her grandsons. [Watching The Land Before Time with a YooHoo will forever be associated with Grandma Chachko].

She was pre-deceased by her husband Edward and son David, both in 2012, and her parents Matthew and Helen Dabrowski. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law Carl, Paul and Kim, Jonathan and Donna and Barbara, nine grandsons [Michael Boyle, Brett, Dennis, Michael, Cole, Austin, Blake, Jon Henry and Harrison Chachko], six great grandchildren, her sister Marcia Spakowski, her brother Thomas Dabrowski and his wife Florence. She was lovingly cared for in her final years by her wonderful aide Tessa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 1, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Saint Dorothea R.C. Church in Eatontown, followed by an interment at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport.
