On Thursday, February 7th, Isabel Singer Marriott, loving mother of six and grandmother of twenty-one, peacefully passed away at the age of 88. Isabel was the beloved wife of the late Vincent J. Marriott, Jr. She was born on September 25th, 1930 in New York City to Arthur and Isabel Singer, the youngest of their four children.
Isabel graduated from Mountain Lakes High School (New Jersey) in 1948 and received a degree in Sociology from Skidmore College in 1952. Isabel was graduated from Fordham University in 1954 with a Masters in Social Services. Upon graduation, Isabel worked for Catholic Social Services in New York City. After raising her six children, Isabel earned her Masters in Theology from Fordham University (1990).
There was no milestone too small in the lives of those around her that Isabel failed to recognize with a card, a gift, and a hug. She brought great joy to everyone, both family and friends. She was a person of strong faith, and that faith played a major role in her life. She was a guiding light to many, especially her twenty-one grandchildren who reveled in her attention and love. She was curious and wise, possessing a powerful intellect coupled with the common sense of someone who quite simply understood people and the world in which we live. Non-judgmental, kind, and an exceptional listener, her advice and counsel were solicited by all those around her. Isabel cherished being on her front porch in Avon-by-the-Sea, New Jersey, surrounded by those she loved. She will be deeply missed by so many.
Isabel is survived by her children: Vince (Jeanne), Ann Ballard (Brent), Chris (Betsy), Mike (Whitney), Tom (Deb), and Mary Broadhurst (Mike). Isabel is also survived by her 21 grandchildren, and her brother Arthur Singer (Joan).
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 15th at 11am at the Church of the Nativity located at 180 Ridge Road in Fair Haven, NJ. Visitation with the family will be in the church from 9:00am-11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made “in honor of Isabel Marriott” to Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School. https://www.cristoreyphiladelphia.org/page.cfm?p=536
