Irene Farrell

Irene Marie Farrell, 96, passed away at the Chelsea at Shrewsbury on April 19, 2020.

She was born in Long Island, NY to the late Sylvester and Irene (Dean) Sturges and she lived her life on Long Island, NY and Red Bank spending summers in Sea Bright, until retiring there in 1978. 

Irene worked as a wife and as a proud mother of eight children! She also had in later years worked for about ten years at H&R Block in Red Bank. After a successful modeling career, Irene married her high school sweetheart and together they raised eight children. Irene and Jim were married almost 70 years.

She is predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, James Farrell; her son, Jimmy Farrell and her brothers: Ken and Sylvester Sturges.

Irene had many cherished friends. She was a spirited and loving person whose kindness touched many lives. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed her grandchildren, playing bridge, gardening, swimming, dancing, laughter and watching a beautiful sunset on the Shrewsbury River. Her joy was seeing those around her enjoying life. She will be greatly missed, but her love of life and her exemplary devotion to family, friends and duty will live on throughout generations.

Irene is survived by her children and their spouses: Kathy and Bob McNaughton of VA, Maureen and Dick Kaye of FL, Irene and Jim Towt of Gillette, John and Trish Farrell of PA, Tom and Katharine Farrell of PA, Bob and Diane Farrell of Atlantic Highlands and Mary Beth and Pat Larkin of Manalapan. She is also survived by her 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren who will miss her very much.

A Memorial Mass will take place at Holy Cross Church in Rumson on Monday October 11, 2021 at 10AM. All other arrangements are private and under the care of the John E. Day Funeral Home 85 Riverside Avenue Red Bank, NJ 07701.
