George V. Buonano

August 24, 1951 ~ January 16, 2022 (age 70)


George V. Buonano, 70, passed away at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank on January 16, 2022.
He was born to the late George and Elizabeth Buonano, and he had lived in both Lincroft and Red Bank during his life.

George retired as a Lieutenant for the NJ State Police Department, in which he served for over 30 years.

He graduated from Red Bank Regional High School in 1969. He attended Kean University for his Undergraduate Degree and completed a Masters Degree from Seton Hall University. George graduated from the New Jersey State Police Academy in 1974, and was stationed at various Troop C and Troop E Garden State Parkway stations. He obtained the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to Troop E Headquarters upon retirement. George was also an adjunct professor at Ocean County College and Brookdale Community College.

George was a history buff on the Civil War. He also enjoyed gardening and taking vacations to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket with his wife Valerie Joy.

Surviving is his wife of more than 20 years, Valerie Joy Brownrigg; his children and their spouses: George Buonano and his fiancée Erica Ruppel of East Windsor, Sarah Buonano and her fiancée Michael Shanahan of Jackson, and his step daughter, Nina Joy Sena and her husband, Jason of Shrewsbury. Also surviving are his three grandchildren: Justin Buonano and Luke and Juliet Joy Sena.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 10AM. All other arrangements are private and under the direction of the John E. Day Funeral Home 85 Riverside Avenue Red Bank, NJ 07701.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd. Staten Island, NY 10306.
