Emanuel J. “Nate” Fulcomer, 73, passed away peacefully at home in Little Silver on Saturday, February 24. He was born in Wilkinsburg, PA to the late Emanuel J. Sr. and Anna (Cummings) Fulcomer. Nate spent his youth in Pitcairn, PA., and then in Shippensburg, PA. He graduated from Shippensburg Area High School in’62, received a B.S. and M.S. degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in ’72.
Nate worked for IBM in 1961, then, was employed by Bell Telephone Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ in 1971. He then worked for the AT&T offshoots, American Bell, Lucent, and finally retired from Avaya as a D.M.T.S. in 2001.
After moving from PA, Nate resided in Matawan, Neptune, Red Bank, and finally Little Silver, NJ. He joined the Monmouth Boat Club in Red Bank in the 1970s and was also an active church member, serving on the Council of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Red Bank. Then in 1983 after his marriage to Karen A. MacLean, he joined the First Presbyterian Church of Rumson, serving first as a Deacon, then an Elder and as a lay leader for adult bible study for several years.
Besides his passion for bible study, he had a passion for photography and model railroads. He designed a model railroad set in a gorgeous autumn background and it still amazes those who have the opportunity to see it.
He is predeceased by his parents, his sisters: Virginia Boring, and Freda Long. Surviving is his wife Karen (MacLean) Fulcomer; his nieces and nephews: Glenn, Tim, Barry, Lane, Nathan, Hope Ann, Priscilla, Debbie, and Prudence; his cousins: Florence Lee, Sylvia Askey, Robert Cummings, Mary Elizabeth Saulen, Wilma Ruth Deyarmin, and Marvin Cummings; brother-in-law Douglas MacLean; and godson Brian Allen.
Burial will take place at 1PM on Wednesday, February 28 at Spring Hill Cemetery in Shippensburg, PA. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, March 10, at 11AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Rumson, NJ.
