Eleanor M. Skeen

Eleanor M. Skeen, 89, of Tinton Falls passed away, Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at home.

She was born in Philadelphia to the late Max and Lonny (nee: Graube) Graupner. She attended Masbaum High School for the Arts in Philadelphia, in the fine arts program, where she met her trombonist husband, Lewis. In the early years of her marriage, Eleanor joined her husband as he toured the country with the Hal McIntyre big band.

Eleanor was a volunteer at the Tinton Falls Library for many years and served on the entertainment committee at Shady Oaks, where she enjoyed time with her friends and neighbors.  A talented artist, she exhibited her pressed flower pictures at many local craft shows and shops over the years.  During the holidays, neighbors and friends curried favor to receive one of her prized Christmas stollens or cookie platters.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Lewis R. Skeen, Jr.

Eleanor is survived by her two sons:  Lewis R. Skeen III, and spouse Clare of Keyport, Paul Skeen and spouse, Belinda of Oceanport; and daughter Ellen Skeen Berhang of Freehold.  She is also survived by her dear grandchildren:  Annie Rivera and her husband Charles of Hazlet, Connor Skeen and Rebecca Skeen.

The family would like to thank Grace Hospice, as well as the staff at The Chelsea at Tinton Falls, where she formed many cherished friendships.

A celebration of her life will be at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave. Red Bank, NJ on Sunday, October 1st from 2 - 4 & 7 – 9 pm. A service will be held Monday, October 2nd at 10:00 am at the funeral home with entombment following at Monmouth Memorial Park Cemetery.
