On January 11th, 2019, Eleanor Gale, wonderful friend, mother of 3 and grandmother of 3 passed away at the age of 91. Ellie was born and raised in New Haven Connecticut in 1927. She matriculated from New Haven Commercial High School and completed college in office administration. She went on to become the personal assistant to the Dean of Yale University's Law School, where she met her husband, Richard Gale, of 57 years, who was teaching under a fellowship program while obtaining his master’s in engineering. Her husband’s profession as a scientist for the Department of Defense, took them around the world. While living in Malvern, England, Richard helped establish the radar defense system for the UK. During her travels, Ellie studied the arts and antiquities. After delivering their first child in England, they re-established themselves in Fair Haven, New Jersey and became active local community residents for over 60 years. As an expert in 19th century English and French antiquities and Americana, she was a buyer for what was then Tower Hill Antiques in Red Bank. Over the years, she would own the high-end Wooden Soldier novelty store in Fair Haven and run antique retail operations in Little Silver and Red Bank (Riverbank and most recently the Annex). Antiques and family were her passions, and she worked up to the day of her passing.
Ellie is survived by her three children, Richard of New Lebanon, NY; Robert of Fair Haven, NJ; and Ronald of Colts Neck, NJ; and 3 grandchildren, Rory, Kirsten and Aloka.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. at John Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ (brief Christian burial celebration at 7:30 p.m) Interment will follow the next day for family members at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport.
