Daniel Francis McCurdy passed away on April 24, 2020 after a short battle with heart disease. He was 68 years old.
Danny was born in New York City. He went to Power Memorial High School where he played basketball and made lifelong friends from the Bronx, Queens, and Manhattan. He attended St. Leo University in Florida and, despite the distance, became a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. After graduation, Danny moved to Monmouth County to begin the rest of his life.
He was a man of many talents—a voracious reader, a fan of history, an excellent storyteller; Danny could often be found captivating his friends and family with enthusiastic stories around the dinner table over a bottle of wine. He was known for his love of sports, music, and a good time. Of all those things he passes on are his appreciation for Steely Dan, spending a sunny day at the beach, and a cold Bud heavy.
Danny gained the most out of life through his interests and friendships. He often held court at Red Rocks, his favorite local pub. He claimed the seat at the elbow of the bar, so he had enough space to entertain friends both new and old. Danny had a friend wherever he went, and he will be remembered for his demeanor, his vintage style, and sense of humor.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Vera McCurdy and niece Tara Seda. He is survived by his daughters, Lauren (Ryan Missanelli) and Shannon (Christopher Black), his ex-wife Deborah (Jerome Hines), sister Donna Hanley, sister Diane Betz (Jack), nieces Christine Hanley, Kelly Fernandez, Karrie Petrizzo (Peter), Jaclyn Betz and nephews Daniel Hanley (Irene) and Thomas Hanley.
His family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Riverview Medical Center and Robert Wood Johnson. They took excellent care of Danny and offered much kindness to his family and friends during his stay.
A celebration of Danny’s life will be held at a future date when the CDC and the State of New Jersey recommend it is safe to do so. His family would like to accommodate everyone whose life was influenced by Danny.
