Christian W. Apel

Christian W., 67, of Galloway, formerly of Ringwood, died on May 26, 2021 in his home -- surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Passaic to John and Marlene Apel, Chris was raised in Ringwood where he later built his beautiful home on the "Bonanno Compound" and raised his children. Chris was the co-owner and President of C.J Building Supply in Putman and Orange Counties from 1981-1996. He then moved on to employment with ABC Supply Co. Inc., where he proudly worked his way up from being the Branch Manager in Newburgh, NY to Managing Partner and District Manager. He sadly had to leave his career after his diagnosis in 2012. Not only was Chris a good, hardworking man, he was a devoted son and brother, loving husband, proud father, and adoring grandfather. Though his life was cut short many years ago by Early Onset Alzheimer’s, this quiet, patient (especially with Lorrie), brave, handsome man, remained true to his calm, gentle nature, throughout his illness.

Chris will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 45 years, Lorrie Bonanno Apel, children and spouses, Ryan K. Apel and Jessica of Galloway and Laura H. Apel and Rose Chhun of California and his two grandchildren, Rhegan and Jacob Apel. He is also survived by his mother Marlene Johannemann Apel, siblings and their spouses -- Peggy (Apel) Stewart and Neil Keegstra, David Apel, Sue (Apel) and Pat Milner, and sister-in-law Sonia Apel. Chris will also be missed by his in-laws, Bob and Nancy Bonanno, Keith and Lisa Bonanno, and Linda and Frank Carson, along with many nieces and nephews. Chris is predeceased by his best friend and wonderful father, John T. Apel Sr., and big brother John T. Apel Jr. Last, but not least, his ever present, loyal canine companion, Salvatore, will continue standing guard until he can be with his beloved master once again.

A visitation will be held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701 on Tuesday June 1, 2021 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank on Wednesday June 2, 2021 at 10 am.
