Alma E. Moses

Alma Eleanor Brown Moses, 90, of Tinton Falls, NJ went Home to Glory peacefully,  and surrounded by her family, on February 1, 2023.  

Alma was born to Obadiah Brown and Alma Gertrude Brown (nee Smith) on January 20, 1933 in Manhattan, NYC, NY.  She graduated from Julia Richman High School, Manhattan, NYC, NY, which was an all-girls high school from 1913-1967. Mrs. Moses, as her students called her, went on to graduate from Oswego State Teachers College, Oswego, NY where she met her future husband, John Franklin Moses, whom she married on June 23, 1956 in Liverpool, NY.

Mrs. Moses was a Kindergarten teacher for the Eatontown Public School System for 45 years—from 1955-1968 at Vetter School and from 1968 until her retirement in 2000 at Woodmere School.  She was a postgraduate member of The Delta Sigma Theta Inc. Sorority, served on the Red Bank Board of Education and was a volunteer tutor for several community organizations.

Alma accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and her love for children coupled with her love of the Lord, defined her as a well respected Pioneer Girls Leader and Sunday School teacher at several churches of which she was a member. 

Mrs. Alma Moses is preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin Moses, her parents, Obadiah and Alma Brown, and her brothers, Alfred Vincent Brown, Carlton E. Brown, and Donald Brown. 

The memories of Alma Eleanor Brown Moses will be cherished by her daughter, Cheryl Moses Cross, Eatontown, NJ, and her three grandchildren, John Moses Cross, Tinton Falls, NJ who was her primary caregiver in her later years, James Paul Brown Cross, Ellsworth, ME, and Jael Alma Nicole Cross, Tinton Falls, NJ.

Visitation will be from 10am-12 pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ with a service immediately following at 12:00 at the funeral home. A private burial will follow.
