October 20, 1919 ~ November 6, 2017 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Rose D. Murphy, 98, passed away on November 6, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center.  She was born and raised in Pocahontas, VA, a coal mining town, to the late John and Margaret Satmary.  Rose grew up with her 4 brothers and 9 sisters.  She graduated in 1937 from Pocahontas High School where she was Athlete of the Year her senior year. Rose proudly served our country in the US Navy during World War II from 1941 to 1942. She was an avid sports enthusiast; especially enjoyed watching Detroit Tigers Baseball and Notre Dame Football. She was a parishioner at St. James RC Church in Red Bank for many years.  Most of all, Rose loved to spend time with her family and her friends of Oceanport.

She is predeceased by her loving husband Philip Murphy in 2003.  Surviving are her three loving sons, James and his wife Quynh, Michael and his wife Kitty and Philip Murphy; her cherished grandchildren, Kelly (spouse Todd Will), Erin, Maxwell, Felix, Spencer and Brandon; and her dear great grandchildren, Morgan and Reagan.

Visitation will be held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue Red Bank, NJ 07701 on Monday November 13, 2017 from 9-10 am.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. James RC Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent in Rose’s memory to St. Elizabeth’s Maintenance Fund., C/O Anne Danko, 625 Quail Drive, Bluefield, VA 24635.  Please visit Rose’s memorial website available at www.johnedayfuneralhome.com.
