Robert John Hoffman Sr.

April 30, 1931 ~ January 5, 2018 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Robert John Hoffman, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on January 5, 2018. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ to Herman and Loretta Brogan Hoffman. Currently a resident at Leisure Park in Lakewood, Robert previously lived in Shrewsbury. Robert joined the U.S. Marines and served as a field radio operator from 1951 – 1954 in operations against enemy forces in south and central Korea.

Robert joined the Shrewsbury Police Department where he was one of only four police officers at the time he was hired. During his time with the Shrewsbury Police, Robert served as the Shrewsbury Juvenile Officer, started the Shrewsbury Civil Defense unit and was a former Shrewsbury police commissioner. Robert was also a member of the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Department and a life member of the NJ State PBA Local 39. He was the Director of Parking at Monmouth Park Jockey Club, CEO of Hoffman Security and Detective Agency and a salesman at Red Bank Volkswagon. Robert was a proud member of the DAV, VFW, the American Legion, VA Brick, and the Men’s Club at Leisure Park. He was known to be a true friend and loving family man.

Robert is predeceased by his parents, his wife Dolores Pauline Hoffman, his son Robert John Hoffman, Jr., and his son-in-law Gary R. Howard. He is survived by a son William Hoffman and his wife Donna; a daughter Cherie Howard and a daughter Loretta Lawrence and her husband Michael. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Krysta Jackson and her fiancé Jay, Justin Tordella and his wife Krystal, Heather Howard, Gina Hoffman, Brody Hoffman and Alex Hoffman; and four great grandchildren: Katelyn, Owen, Ryan and Evelyn.

                Visitation is Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, NJ. A funeral home service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 12. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Hillside, NJ.
