Marcella Gatti

January 2, 1959 ~ October 12, 2017 (age 58) 58 Years Old

Dr. Marcella E. Gatti, 58, of Shrewsbury passed away October 12, 2017 in Long Branch after a brief illness.

Born in Brooklyn to the late Dr. Frank Gatti and Amelia Aloia Gatti, Marcella grew up on Staten Island and attended Staten Island Academy, where she was involved in many activities including cheerleading and theater.  Marcella was energetic, intelligent, and had a great sense of humor.  She was an animated storyteller, with a remarkable ability to keep her audience engaged in her tales of work, friends and family. From the time she was in high school, Marcella was interested in the medical profession, and her passion to become a physician led her to travel to Grenada where she attended St. George’s University School of Medicine.  Her adventures there were not only limited to studying.  The U.S. Army airlifted her out of Grenada when the United States invaded the island in 1983.  Upon graduation, she completed her residency in internal medicine and anesthesiology at Monmouth Medical Center. She practiced internal medicine in Norfolk Virginia and was also a medical examiner there. Marcella continued her career as an anesthesiologist at Monmouth Medical Center from 1999 until her passing.

Her family, friends and colleagues will miss Marcella very much.  She was truly the celebrity in her family, and was known for her sharp wit, her humor, and her dedication to both her profession and her family.  She met challenges with energy, grace, and determination.  She was passionate about her job and especially about her son Thomas who shares her sense of humor and love of storytelling.

Marcella is survived by her husband Tim Kircher, her son Thomas Kircher, her three siblings JoAnne Petito, Francine Newbold and Frank Gatti, their spouses John Petito and Terri Gatti as well as five nieces, two nephews and a great nephew.

Her family will hold a private celebration of Marcella’s life by invitation only.
