My heart is very sad with the passing of this great man. I knew the moment I met him 30+ years ago that he was a special person. He welcomed me into his home and made me feel like family immediately. We shared some wonderful times and he taught me many life lessons but none more important then how to be a good person and an even better grandfather. I hope some day I get the chance to be as good a grandfather as you were to Christina and Shannon. You are truly the BEST and I will miss you more then you know. Rest In Peace Pop. We love you.

Dear Family of John, I only knew him for 6 months as a fellow soldier in Germany. He took my position so I could go home and I thanked him for that. Some 50 years later we found each thanks on the internet. I learned of his life and values which were the same as mine; friends, family, and faith. May God give you comfort as you miss him, for now.
A comrade in arms, Mick Vander Griend

In the year or so that I came to know him, it was quite apparent that he was a man of , talent, honor and dignity, serving both his country and family well. His door and heart was alway open - his smile warmed the room. He found joys in simple things that most take for granted - Sunday coffee with the family, tending the garden, painting a picture. I am blessed to have shared time with him and will miss him dearly - May your family find comfort in knowing that he lives on through his lasting impression and legacy - xo
