Howard B. Bernstein

Howard B. Bernstein, 91, of Colts Neck, passed away on March 14, 2017 at home. He was born in New York, NY on January 31, 1926 to Rose and Abraham (Abe) Bernstein. Howard was the co-founder of Bel Fuse located in Jersey City with his late brother Elliot Bernstein.
Howard served in World War II in the Army, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and later served in the Military Police. After the war, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Lafayette College and a Doctorate in psychology from Temple University. He served as Vice President of Bel Fuse from 1954 until his retirement in 1986.
He published two collections of poems, On Leave with Norgood in 1989, and All Simple Things but Time in 2014. He was actively involved in charitable and philanthropic activities. Howard enjoyed poetry, art, music, and politics
Howard is predeceased by his first wife Bernice (Basha) Bernstein, his second wife Patricia (Pat) Bernstein, and his brother, Elliot Bernstein. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Dyas-Bernstein, his half-sister Serena Bardell, his cherished children from his marriage to Basha, Matthew (Matt) and his wife Rhoda, his daughter Eve and her wife Ula, and Freda Langbert and her husband Mitchell; his step-children, Christina and David Liberatore , Jacqueline Dyas, and Edward Dyas and his wife Colleen; his ten cherished grandchildren, Juliet, Sara, Lee, and step-grand children, Spencer, Amelia, Gabrielle, Nicholas, Karahn, Sean, and Isabelle.
A private memorial gathering will be held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent in Howard’s memory to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
