Roadmap-037
Welcome to the memorial page for

Edward A. Murphy

June 29, 1950 ~ July 19, 2017 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Edward A. Murphy, 67, of Tinton Falls, passed away on July 19, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center. He was born in Manhattan, NY to the late Andrew and Lillian (Nooney) Murphy and moved to NJ at the age of 11. Edward graduated from St. Mary’s High School, received his Bachelor’s Degree from Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC and his Master of Arts in Speech and Theatre from Montclair University. He was a member of Daltai na Gaeilge, an Irish Language Group where he met his wife, in addition to Irish dancing and other activities. Edward enjoyed traveling to Mexico and throughout Europe, especially to Ireland and Italy. On a recent trip to Ireland, he and Eileen located the homes where his grandparents had been born; the Murphy homestead on the Kenmare River in County Kerry, and the Hartnett cottage overlooking the Cork River, both boasting million-dollar views of a picture-postcard Ireland.  This was largely due to Ed's extensive genealogy studies. He was a dedicated Pressman with the Printing/Pressman’s Union, Local 2, for the New York Times for 35 years, first in the 43rd St Manhattan building, then Carlstadt, Edison, and finally at College Point.

He is predeceased by his sister, Joan. Surviving is his loving wife of 23 years, Eileen (Linzmayer) Murphy, his beloved step-sons, Terence Youmans and his wife Nora, and Jonathan Youmans; his cherished grandchildren, Patrick Youmans and Raylan Youmans; his in-laws, Frank and Eileen (McNeil) Linzmayer, and his dear cousins, Edward Nooney, James Nooney, Eleanor Rodriguez, and Carol Ranney. There are also many nieces and nephews on both side of his family. Visitation will be held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701 on Sunday July 23, 2017 from 3-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday July 24, 2017 at 11 AM at The Church of Saint Anselm, 1028 Wayside Rd, Tinton Falls.  Interment will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery. In Lieu of the family the family request contributions be made in Edward's name to Associated Humane Societies, 2960 Shafto Rd, Tinton Falls, NJ.07753 and/or Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Rd, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598
