Martin Daniel Screen

September 18, 1929 ~ July 19, 2014 (age 84) 84 Years Old
Martin Daniel Screen, Sr., 84, went home to God on July 19, 2014 while surrounded by family. He will be deeply missed by family and friends for his larger than life personality, infectious sense of humor, quick wit, and giant heart.    He was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late James  and Mary (Kelly) Screen of County Galway, Ireland.  A graduate of St. John’s Prep in Brooklyn, NY, and Niagara University. Mr. Screen spent many years working and managing his family’s restaurant  in Manhattan.  After relocating to Rumson, NJ, he became a loyal employee of the 3M Company, retiring after 22 years of service.

Mr. Screen was a 60-year communicant of Holy Cross Church in Rumson, NJ, where he served as an usher for 35 years.  His strong faith made him a frequent attendee of daily mass and nocturnal adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the Holy Cross School Board of Education.   He recently became a member of the Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven, NJ.

Martin served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  He was rewarded for his deep patriotism when his military service led him to meet his adored wife of 49 years, Margaret Carolyn Barker of Farmington, Connecticut.  The couple had three children and nine grandchildren.  A long-time fan of the Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers, Mr. Screen was an avid tennis player and a proud member of the Sal’s Tavern Softball team.  He was also well known for his large repertoire of jokes on any subject and his ability to create fun and games for everyone around him.

Martin is pre-deceased by his parents, and six siblings, Annie Erin, John Patrick, James,  Joseph, Kitty and Christy.

Marty is dearly loved and survived by his cherished wife of 49 years, Margaret (Pegeen) Screen; three adoring children, Martin Screen and wife Kathleen of Little Silver NJ, Daniel Screen and fiancé Tanya Fuller of Pittsburgh PA and Kelly Bergin and husband Francis of Madison NJ; nine beloved grandchildren, Kathrine, Lauren, Meagan, Kevin, Aileen, Aidan, Kieran, Grace and Hannah and numerous treasured nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
